Denny to Pine on Broadway to close July 20th weekend for streetcar work

1979 Datsun 310, originally uploaded by Kevin_Barrett.

It’s loud. It’s noisy. It will block a key stretch of central Capitol Hill for an entire July weekend. We’re not talking about the Capitol Hill Block Party — that’s not until the last weekend of July. This coming weekend Broadway between Denny and Pine will be closed to vehicular traffic starting the morning of July 20 as constructions crews work on the First Hill Streetcar line.

The work is part of a recent flurry of streetcar activity including the addition of station poles and new lane markings as crews work to get the line in place in time for a 2014 start of service.

Running from 6 am on Saturday July 20 to Sunday, July 21 at 10 pm, the Capitol Hill thoroughfare will close to traffic as crews “excavate and repave the roadway,” a release reads. Businesses in the area will remain open.

config_1Reroutes will operate as follows if you’re commuting in the area:

A signed detour will be in place directing northbound traffic on Broadway to travel east on East Pine Street, north on 12th Avenue, then west on East John Street to Broadway. Southbound traffic on Broadway will be directed to travel west on East Denny Way, southwest on East Olive Way, south on Bellevue Avenue, then east on East Pine Street to Broadway. Broadway will remain open for local access between East Pine Street and East Howell Street. Pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained.

How will this affect the farmer’s market on Sunday?

So, if there’s a turn lane on Broadway is must mean that it’s OK for delivery trucks to park there, eh?
