Rape suspect busted after victim in 12th/Olive St attack waves down police — UPDATE

Police arrested a 20-year-old suspect Sunday night after a woman flagged down officers and said she had been raped in a parking lot near 12th and E Olive Street:

Officers Arrest Man For E. Olive Sex Assault

Officers arrested a 20-year-old man on Capitol Hill Sunday night, moments after a woman flagged down officers and reported that she had been sexually assaulted in a parking lot.

Just before 10:30 pm, the officers were driving through an alleyway near 12th Ave and E. Olive Street when they noticed two men walking through a nearby parking lot.

After the men walked past police, a woman ran out of the parking lot and said she had been sexually assaulted one of the men. The woman told officers she’d met up with two men near 12th Avenue and E. Olive and accompanied them into an alley, where one man attacked her.

Officers immediately headed down E. Olive Way in search of the suspect and found the 20-year-old man about a block away. After the victim positively identified the man, officers arrested him and booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of rape.

Detectives are investigating the case.

According to records, the suspect is a Central District resident and has been jailed four times since last summer including a March domestic violence incident on Capitol Hill for which he was convicted on two counts of assault and received a suspended sentence.

In another recent Capitol Hill rape case, prosecutors have charged a man with indecent liberties for his alleged attack of a woman in Cal Anderson Park.

UPDATE: More details of the Sunday night incident have emerged following a Monday hearing in which the arrested suspect’s bail was set at $250,000. Here is a preliminary police report on the incident included in court documents. Names have been redacted by CHS:Screen Shot 2013-07-22 at 5.54.13 PM

Gee, I’m shocked. There are no fewer than 39 registered sex offenders living within a half mile radius of that block!

At the corner of Summit & Olive alone there are 13 sex offenders listed by icrimewatch.net. From the looks of the maps, these creeps are being half-wayed or warehoused there. There went the neighborhood.

Of course, this incident still begs the question: What woman is stupid enough to walk down a dark alley at night with two suspicious guys and an “unknown female?” Oh, that’s right. A crack whore.

It’s called population density. There are 39 registered sex offenders in a block with ~1800 people

Stop trying abuse facts and statistics. There is no great amount of halfway houses or crack houses on Pike/Pine that leads to this, there is simply a whole lot of people.

More to the point, since when could a woman not meet up with someone and expect to not get raped? Stop blaming the victim, and try looking at the issue from a non biased point of view.

Your sad little map no withstanding, 39 offenders in a pool of 1800 people actually IS a lot and is a higher per capita rate than most places. That’s over 2% of the residents in that neighborhood. As the first commentor also notes, 13 at just that one corner is a huge number. Perhaps you are the one that needs an education in statistics. I suggest starting with learning what per capita means and looking at this again. Compare this corner to the hill to the also dense Belltown. Clearly you don’t know the area very well at all either, as that area does indeed host a few of halfway houses.
