Friday, August 23

  • Community potluck: Join residents, restaurant owners, business owners, urban farmers, and gardeners for a community potluck with lawn games and facilitated discussion about food on Capitol Hill. Cal Anderson Park, 4p.
  • Wine tasting: An unusual Thursday- Friday one-two punch of wine tasting at Vino Verite this week. Friday evening features a selection of pinots and a red from Grochau Cellars. Free, 5 – 8p.
  • GrrrFree beehive hairdos: The book launch party for Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin by Nicole Hardy features a DJ, a stylist to give you an updo, food, and a raffle. Free. Richard Hugo House (1634 11th Ave), 6:30p.
  • Author reading: Rick Bass read’s from his fourth novel All the Land to Hold Us. Free. Elliot Bay Book Company, 7p.
  • Classic Italian cinema: The Hawk and the Sparrows (1966) screens at Northwest Film Forum Friday through Sunday at 7p and 9p.
  • The Half Brothers Brand Old-Time Variety Show: neo-bluegrass infuses the re-creation of the old black-and-white TV variety show. Fridays and Saturdays through Aug 30. $5 – $10. Annex Theatre, 11p.
  • Gamera 3: The Awakening of Iris screens in Volunteer Park.
  • Rescheduled! Rained out earlier this summer, Galaxy Quest wraps up Three Dollar Bill’s outdoor cinema season in Cal Anderson.

Saturday, August 24

  • Stair climb:  Join local Olympian Ariana Kukors in a free fitness event catering to various fitness levels from beginner to pro. Meet at the I-5 Colonnade Park and Howell St Stairs (1900 Lakeview Blvd) at 8:30a.
  • Sustainability Walk: A speaker at each of the 5 stops will share how sustainability has been key to the site’s development. Also learn of upcoming area changes. Free. Meet at the Sustainability booth at the Seattle Bike-In event in Cal Anderson Park. 5p.
  • 6th Annual AMDEF: an evening of collaborative performance featuring art, music, dance, entertainment and fashion. A portion of proceeds to benefit Social Outreach Seattle. Advance tix $15. Neumos (925 E Pike), 7p – 2a.

  • Celebrate Mia Zapata’s birthday with a screening of The Gits, a 2007 documentary about the acclaimed Seattle street punk band. Zapata’s life ended tragically 20 years ago, but her inspiration lives on. Northwest Film Forum, 7p.
  • Seattle Teen Music holds festival in Volunteer Park.
