  • Seattle U car mugging: A thief followed his victim onto the Seattle U campus early Saturday morning and reportedly demanded to be taken to the victim’s vehicle where he pulled the victim to the ground and stole the person’s phone and car keys — and the car. According to a security bulletin sent to campus by the school, the victim was not a student but was parked on campus. The victim told police the suspect was a “[stocky] build Hispanic male 5’7” in his 30’s.”
  • 14/Mad assault: Police were called to 14th and Madison Wednesday where they found three people holding a struggling man down on the pavement. According to the victims, the man had suddenly leapt into a woman’s car and attacked her as she was driving by the area around 8:30 AM. A security guard from a nearby bank intervened and the group was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived. According to police radio dispatch, Seattle Fire was later called to the East Precinct to treat the man for a minor head laceration suffered as he beat his head against the car inside the back of an SPD patrol vehicle.
  • Phone grab: The suspect in an iPhone street robbery made a quick getaway Monday morning. In the incident reported around 10:30 AM in the 800 block of E Republican, a suspect described only as a black male with a light blue hoodie pulled tight and covering his face grabbed the victim’s iPhone and made a run for it on E Republican near Broadway. A search of the area by police was not successful.
  • Cal Anderson non-fire: Police and fire units were dispatched to Cal Anderson just after midnight Monday morning to a report that a group had set a park bench on fire and were standing around “watching it burn.” An arriving officer found the culprits had lit a roman candle and were enjoying the show. The bench was not damaged.

Sucks to have to recommend to people that they stick to well-lit and high-traffic areas when walking home alone (especially with a $500 doodad held at arm’s length) but that’s the reality in many cities. Be safe, install recovery/tracking software on your phone, yell for help if you can manage it.
