Thursday, September 5

  • Mercedes Nicole presents A Tribute to Nina Simone. Known as the “high priestess of soul” (to wit) Nina Simone later in life used her influence and music to fight for equal rights in the 1960s. $15. Town Hall, Downstairs (1119 8th Ave), 6:30 – 8:30.
  • Join Dana Greene author of Denise Levertov: A Poet’s Life, and local writer and scholar Rebecca Brown as they discuss the great poet’s life, faith, an craft. Elliott Bay Book Company, 7p.
  • Be an informed voter on Seattle ballot measures: learn about the new ballot measures and hear pro and con arguments. Produced by the League of Women Voters. Free. Seattle First Baptist Church (1111 Harvard Ave), 7:30p.
  • Wall of Sound re-opens in new 12th/Pike home.
  • Music movie! The Harder They Come (1974) launched reggae to the international stage and made a Jimmy Cliff a star. One night only, $7 – $10.  Northwest Film Forum, 7p.

Friday, September 6

  • WB 520 closed to traffic starting at 11 PM through Saturday 5 PM. Meanwhile, partial closure at Pine/Broadway Saturday and Sunday.
  • Wine tasting of French wines from the Loire Valley. $5 Paris Eastside (816 E Pike), 5 – 7p.
  • Outdoor concert at the Columns: Free and all ages concert featuring 27 Doors. Plymouth Pillars Park (1105 Pine St), 7:30p.
  • Art exhibit opening: Hedreen Gallery presents a solo exhibit of multimedia work by Garek J. Druss. Free. Hedreen Gallery (901 12th Ave), 7 – 10p.

  • BALAGAN LES MIS POSTERAt Saving the Sea of Cortez, biologist Aaron Hirsh (and author of Telling Our Way to the Sea) shares a revelation of unraveling ecosystems and a meditation on our changing relationships with nature—and with one another. $5. Town Hall, Downstairs, 7:30p

Saturday, September 7

The 10a tour still has a few tickets available $15 pre-purchase. The 10:30 tours are full, but you could show up with $25 and hope for a walk up spot opening.   • Arangetram of Nivedita Biju presented by the From Within Academy at Broadway Performance Hall. Sunday, also.
  • Mole Cartoons is a collection of animated filmsby Czech animator Zdenek Miler featuring surrealistic colors and strong narrative without the use of words. No subtitles required! Saturday only, $7 – $10. Northwest Film Forum, 5p.

  • Dick’s Drive-In 60th Anniversary Block Party: local music lineup includes Recess Monkey, Tilson XOXO, Don’t Talk to the Cops, and more. Plus a beer garden! Start at noon, who knows when it ends. Free, at Dick’s Drive-In on Broadway. Broadway closed to traffic!
