CHS mayor survey respondents say McGinn better for Capitol Hill — and predict he’ll lose

Above, you can check out a few highlights in a five minute, 58-second version of last Thursday’s Capitol Hill Mayoral Forum. We posted CHS coverage of the night — and a video of the full debate — here.

Following the forum, we also asked CHS readers which candidate they believed was best for Capitol Hill — and which candidate they believe will win come November. You can see full results on that main post but we also filtered the dataset by respondents who either said they lived on Capitol Hill, worked or went to school here — or both. In that transit-loving segment, 52% of 179 respondents said they believe incumbent Mike McGinn would be the best mayor for the Hill. More than 67% said they believed challenger Ed Murray will win. McGinn, who managed to bring many of the questions asked Thursday night around to public transit issues, will either be a victim of defeatist attitudes on Capitol Hill — or has Murray right where he wants him.

There’s more at stake in November’s election than the Mayor’s Office. Check out all of CHS’s Election 2013 coverage here.

McGinn is a nice guy. But his inability to deal with crime on the Hill and downtown has lost me. I think that Murray understands that this is a pretty serious issue and that we need more than some lighting changes and park rangers.

52% of 179 is 93.08. Either someone is of mixed mind, incomplete response, or your second graph is off a tad. No matter.

Not a scientific survey but it’s of note that the 95% confidence interval for McGinn’s 52% is about (44%, 59%). That is, we can’t be sure that there’s truly any difference between the two candidates. Remember kids: A point estimate is worthless without an accompanying measure of variation!
