Two street robberies went down within minutes of each other on the backside of Pike/Pine near Broadway and E Union early Sunday morning.
According to Seattle University security, a student reported being held up by a duo who claimed to have a gun around 2:30 AM:
The student described that on Sunday, October 20th at about 2:30 am he and a friend were walking near Broadway and East Union, when they were approached by 2 unknown African American males and 1 unknown African American female. One of the unknown males confronted the student, said that he had a firearm and punched the student in the chest several times. The student and friend then fled to campus. The student described the suspect to be 6’1” tall, wearing blue jeans and a dark brown hat and the female to be wearing blue jeans and a green jacket.
About 10 minutes later, an SPD officer on an unrelated patrol near Broadway and Union found the aftermath of another street robbery. The victims told police two black males had pushed them onto Broadway CT, robbed them and then fled in a vehicle described only as blue and possibly a large American-made sedan. The suspects were described as two black males — the driver was heavyset with a New England or East Coast accent, the passenger a thin black male wearing a hoodie. The car was believed to have left westbound on E Madison. Police did not immediately find the vehicle or the suspects.
Earlier this week, representatives from SPD’s East Precinct met with the community to discuss concerns about ongoing street crime on Capitol Hill and near Cal Anderson Park.
UPDATE: We have unconfirmed details of a third reported Capitol Hill street robbery around 2:30 AM Sunday. Here’s a brief note from a CHS reader about an incident near Belmont and E Olive St:
A friend of mine reports that he was robbed at gunpoint, wallet and phone, on Belmont Ave. just North of Olive Street early this morning. He said that he and the assailant had actually “talked for 5 minutes” (apparently on friendly terms) before the gun was pulled out and ‘shoved in his face’ and the robbery occurred.
We’ll update when we learn more about the incident from SPD.
