Block Party-powered Holiday Hotspot brings Santa, pop-up tree lot and, hopefully, business to Pike/Pine

861027_766693910011832_1459005538_oPowered by a community donation from the Capitol Hill Block Party, another promotion to inject the holiday spirit into neighborhood businesses will take place this weekend in Pike/Pine.

The Holiday Hotspot weekend starts Friday with “Sugar Plum Elves” in the streets and includes a pop-up Christmas tree lot (including apartment-appropriate greenery), caroling Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and a Sunday night dance party featuring a Taylor Swift cover band. Along the way, kids will have a chance to meet Santa and, um, enjoy “a holiday mascot parade” along 10th and Pike. Meanwhile, the slightly less rock-n-roll and CHS-backed Shop the Hill “shop local” deals and activities continue across the rest of Capitol Hill.

Note that the tree lot also benefits SASG if you can’t make it by their 17th/Thomas lot.

The weekend Hot Spot event is powered by funding provided by Capitol Hill Block Party’s producers to the chamber as the annual summer event continues its community effort to support neighborhood businesses that might find their receipts falling short during the three day music festival.

Last year, the Pike/Pine business community went through the holiday season without a major promotional effort as the mostly unpopular Hunters Capital-backed faux-ice rink in Cal Anderson Park was not brought back for another season.

I guess this won’t happen, then….

“Organizers tell CHS that the focus is, instead, on trying to pull off a more ambitious true-ice effort for the 2013 holiday season.”
