On the List | Capitol Hill Arts Walk, Velocity’s Next Fest, fundraisers, craft fairs

Conservatory red text highThursday’s Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk 30+ events and shows this month include the unveiling of this year’s Stars on Broadway at Broadway and John, a Holiday in Volunteer Park and the third annual Star Wars-themed show at Ltd. Gallery. Additional Thursday highlights:

  • Pound Arts‘  25th Anniversary Party with arts, crafts, tattoos, guide pups(!).
  • john osgood at poco wine and spiritsVermillion features work by artists who have lived — or slept with people who have lived — in the iconic Laurelton apartment building. You probably know someone who knows someone who’s in this show.
  • Collage x 4:  at Americana, at Cloud Gallery in Frame Central, at True Love Gallery and Tattoo, and at Bluebird Ice Cream (hosted by Hollow Earth Radio).
  • Affordable art and small works: Retrofit Home‘s 9th year of Hundred and Under show and the Holiday Miniature Art Extravaganza at Ghost Gallery.

GP Pardon a PUp PicIn the mood to party for the greater good? Choices!  Festibus! benefit for Washington Bus at the Bullitt Center on Thursday, Pardon a Pup benefit for shelter dogs at Sam’s Tavern on Friday,  and Wonderland benefit for Urban Artworks at Love City Love on Friday.

next fest velocityVelocity Dance Center’s annual Next Fest, featuring fresh new voices in contemporary dance from the region, culminates this weekend with performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The program “unveils fierce new work by GENDER TENDER, Coleman Pester/Tectonic Marrow Society, Nathan Blackwell, Dylan Ward and Alana O Rogers with installations by Matt Drews + Coulliette [the Pendleton House], kt Shores + Lexi Hamill.

wonderlandSeveral holiday craft gift shops are popping up on the Hill this weekend, including Canoe Social Club’s Bizarre Bazaar, a holiday art fair at Vermillion, Holiday Bazar Gnar at The In, and the NEST pop-up boutique on Bellevue Ave.

Healthcare enrollment help: If you haven’t yet signed up for healthcare coverage and want to ask questions and get help, trained “assisters” will be at Gay City Health Project on Saturday 10am – 12pm. Although the deadline has been extended into 2014, you’ll need to enroll by December 23rd for your coverage to start on January 1.

On Sunday, bring your memories to Canterbury Ale and Eats for the “Last Canterbury Knight ever” before this 15th Ave watering hole is reincarnated.
