‘Tis the season for hosting guests from out of town. How to get away? What to do with them?

The Volunnteer Park ConservatoryThe seasonal house at the Volunteer Park Conservatory is a good bet for pleasing any age of out-of-towners. The vintage model train (kids!) runs noon to 3pm Friday through Sunday and a harpist (granny!) will be playing on Sunday 1pm to 2pm.

Traditionalists may like one of these music performances at Hill-area churches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A Festival of Lessons and Carols performs at St. Mark’s Cathedral;  the Child of Peace Concert with choir and orchestra is featured at First Baptist Church.

marketShoppers can check the Shop the Hill page for the most recent deals and specials offered by Hill businesses. On Sunday, the Broadway Farmers Market is open 11am – 3pm at the corner of Broadway and Pine and feature some great host/ess gifts. Also on Sunday, the final Maker’s Market popup market can be found in the back room of Liberty Bar 12pm  to 5pm.

mimosas with mamaFans of cultural arts performances don’t need to go off Hill for entertainment. On Thursday, the Laurelton: No Place Like Home art show at Vermillion becomes an interactive performance installation with music, readings, videos and more. Friday, Velocity Dance Center hosts the zoe | juniper Performance Party to celebrate the 2013 Genius Award winner.for dance. On Sunday at 1pm, Mimosas with Mama drag brunch goes off at the Unicorn/Narwhal with a show that includes a hyper-abbreviated 10-minute version of the musical Dreamgirls, and other mischief.
