A memorial has grown alongside Lakeview Blvd E on the western edge of Capitol Hill where two 24-year-old men died and a woman was sent to the hospital in a single-car crash early New Year’s morning.
Longtime friends Arthur Sawe and Julian Gray-Florance died when their car flipped after going out of control and striking a fire hydrant near Lakeview and the E Blaine stairs. Police say the cause of the crash is under investigation.
A Facebook site has been set up for friends to remember Sawe and to help raise money for a memorial fund for his family. You can learn more about services for Gray-Florance here.
I never would have thought you could flip a car by hitting a hydrant. This is a reminder to us all that cars are potentially lethal to the occupants even on city streets, and to slow down. I’m so sad for the loss of life. I can’t imagine the horror the families are going through. My prayers go out to them all.
