Man charged for New Year’s sex assault on sleeping Capitol Hill couple

Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 2.09.43 PMA 32-year-old California man has been charged with burglary and a count of indecent liberties for a New Year’s morning attack on a Bellevue Ave E woman after he allegedly entered her ground-floor apartment and fondled the woman as she and her husband slept.

Robert O’Brien, a Stanford student, is being held on $100,000 bail after police say he turned himself in earlier this week:

According to the SPD detective investigating the case, O’Brien claimed he was very intoxicated on New Year’s and could not recall anything about his journey from a South Lake Union party to his parents’ apartment near E Harrison and Belmont Ave E — or how he had lost his driver’s license and his shoes:

  1. O’Brien’s story has a lot of holes in it, and the judicial process will have to sort it all out. But one question is obvious: If he was SO drunk, how did he manage to remove the window and hoist himself up 5 feet to enter the apartment? And even if alcohol was involved, that doesn’t exonerate him from what he did.

And offering the couple money to be allowed to leave is a true sleazeball move.

    • it’s only sleazy if he is an actual sexual predator. Based on the descriptions in SEVERAL news outlets, he’s nothing but a pathetic drunk who was too stupid to know it wasn’t his own home he was breaking into.
