Seattle 2035 — Updating Seattle’s 20-year plan

2409284610_479e5c360f_oHave plans in Seattle for January 30th, 2035? You might want to clear your calendar for 1/30/14 to be on hand for an event to build “a citywide conversation about how Seattle should grow over the next 20 years.” Details on the Seattle 2035 forum are below.

SEATTLE 2035: Big Ideas Event

Imagining Seattle’s Future

SEATTLE— Pecha Kucha Seattle, the City of Seattle and the Seattle Art Museum are collaborating for Big Ideas – Imagining Seattle’s Future, 2035 & Beyond.  The evening will bring together presentations by leaders from across Seattle’s innovation/creation community to explore shared visions for Seattle’s future to inspire Seattle 2035, a year-long citywide conversation to guide the update of the city’s 20-year comprehensive plan.

The event will be held Thursday, January 30th, 5:30 – 8:30pm at the PACCAR Pavilion at the Olympic Sculpture Park.   An open house ahead of the event will feature information about the Comprehensive Plan and Seattle’s growth over the past twenty years. (4:30 – 5:30pm)

Seattle 2035 is a citywide conversation about how Seattle should grow over the next 20 years. It is projected that Seattle will add 120,000 people and 115,000 jobs between now and 2035 – an increase of 20% population and a 23% in jobs over today. In response, the City is updating Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan to shape that growth in a way that builds on our strengths and character as a city. Seattle 2035 will shape the update of the Comprehensive Plan through meetings, discussions and other events to share information and get your best ideas for planning the future of Seattle. BigIdeas_v08_FINAL

Seattle’s comprehensive plan  is a 20-year vision and roadmap for Seattle’s future. It guides important City decisions on where growth (jobs and housing) occurs, how to improve our transportation system, and where investment in utilities, sidewalks, and libraries will be needed. The comprehensive plan is the framework for most of Seattle’s big-picture decisions on how to grow while preserving and improving our neighborhoods. Seattle 2035is the first major update of Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan since 2004, and is required by the Washington State Growth Management Act.

Pecha Kucha events are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, and thoughts.  Held in over 700 cities worldwide, there is one happening almost every day. Pecha Kucha Seattle was founded in 2006, and has hosted 49 free events city-wide, collaborating with institutions such as the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Center. This evening celebrates their 50th program and includes a special recognition from Pecha Kucha’s founders.
