On the List | Oscar shorts, Hangin Tuff!, fruit gleaning, and Rockaraoke

mr_hublotHarvard Exit Theater is doing its part to help you study up for the Oscars. Our historical neighborhood theater is showing two collections of Oscar-nominated shorts now through Thursday, February 13th. The Animation collection includes films from Japan, Luxembourg/France, UK, and the US. The Live Action collection includes selections from Finland, France, Spain, UK and from Denmark: Helium, which looks charming.

The Children’s Film Festival (which started on January 23rd)  and ends on Saturday at Northwest Film Forum with a Closing Ceremony of awards and a surprise screening of outstanding short films. This closing event is recommended for ages 8 and over.

black-like-usBlack Like Us, a new play by Rachel Atkins can be seen at Annex Theatre Thurs – Saturday through March 1.. “Family secrets ripple through time when three sisters in 2013 discover the truth about a young African-American woman in 1958 who realizes she can pass for white. What happens in-between is a frank and funny look at the shifting boundaries of tolerance and what identity really means.” CHS spoke with the playwright about the production here.

In our neighborhood walks and rides, we’ve noticed a quite a few fruit trees with excess and  uncollected fruit. An introduction and informational potluck party for Capitol Hill Seattle Fruit Gleaners. Organized and hosted by Sustainable Capitol Hill and Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, the meet up is Saturday, 3 – 4:30pm at Braeburn building.

rockakaraokeFans of karaoke and live music are in for a treat on Sunday at Chop Suey. Rockaraoke: Live Band Karaoke blends the two and enables you to “front your own rock band and release your inner rockstar!” The event is free and starts at 8p.
