Man dead in E Madison tower fall identified

The victim who fell to his death from one of the E Madison towers early Saturday has been identified as Gabriel Huskey. The 21-year-old was a Seattle resident.

Huskey’s family in Colorado contacted CHS and provided the following statement:

The Huskey family is deeply saddened by the loss of our loving son, brother and friend Gabe. We appreciate your prayers, compassion and respect during this time.
A memorial fund has been set up in Huskey’s name:
Gabe Huskey Memorial Fund
P.O. Box 261207
Lakewood, CO 80226

Police and fire units rushed to the area near 18th and E Madison just before 3 AM Saturday to a report that a suicidal male had climbed one of the 1,000-foot television and communications towers. A witness told CHS she saw Huskey fall from the tower around 3:10 AM.

CHS respects the sensitivity of reporting suicide and attempts to cover incidents by sharing facts in a responsible manner that provides information about what is happening on the streets and in the community around you. Here are two resources to help those in need: National suicide-prevention hotline: 1-800-SUICIDE. Local Crisis Clinic: (206) 461-3222.

Tragic and sad! The poor kid. And his poor family! Ugh. This is heartbreaking.

So young. He was in his prime too. Anyone know what was going on in his life to bring himself to do such a horrible thing to himself?

I was his best friend, I was the one who called it in. he had a lot going on in his life, and what happened was a tragic accident.

Cody, I am extremely sorry for your loss. I, too, used to be close with Gabe. It is terribly hard for me to imagine what you are working through right now. I am having a horrible time finding closure and was hoping that you would be willing to provide some answers to questions I never thought I would have the opportunity to ask. It is understandable if you’d rather not, but I really would appreciate it.

Is access to this tower well locked-up, so people can’t get at it easily? If it isn’t, shouldn’t it be?

I think it’s just open for access; I saw the entire area here and nothing looks like it locks, at least as of today. There have been various service people out back here @Ponderosa Apts. where he fell, the next day and even until yesterday. Hopefully something was done to prevent access!

The tower should be %100 impossible to climb. The very fact Gabe was able to get up the tower at all is disturbing.

I live in the building that was directly affected by Gabriel’s fall. We have all been so sorry and curious for more details, so we appreciate hearing this news. We somehow slept through all the chaos from the incident, except for one resident who was awake. Our deepest sympathies to Gabriel’s family and friends, from the residents of the Ponderosa Apts. on 18th Ave. God Bless! RIP Gabriel!
