Seattle Police were called to Broadway’s Red Light Vintage Saturday afternoon after a worker at the store reported a customer had brought in a hand grenade to sell to the second hand vintage retailer.

SPD confirmed the incident in a brief statement via Twitter:

@SeattlePD: ABS responded to a business at 312 Broadway E to pick up a grenade that customer sold to business at that loc. ABS took custody of grenade.

The store and surrounding sidewalk area were taped off during the police response that started around 2:30 PM. We’ll follow up to find out if there will be any criminal repercussions for the grenade seller.

UPDATE 5/12/14: According to the SPD report on the incident, the grenade was examined at the scene and determined to be inert. The report says the incident unfolded Saturday afternoon when a regular customer of Red Light entered the store and produced the green, pineapple-style hand grenade from her purse and offered it for sale. The store employee, concerned that the customer may have had a real explosive in her possession, purchased the grenade for $10, placed it behind the counter and contacted police.
