Capitol Hill car chase, foot pursuit ends with wanted man in custody near Broadway

A car carrying a suspect attempting to escape arrest rammed a Seattle Police cruiser as a chase played out around E John near Broadway Monday afternoon.

UPDATE (May 6th): Seattle police report the incident began when a patrol officer witnessed the driver make an illegal left turn at 12th and Denny and realized the driver was wanted on a felony warrant.

According to SPD’s Blotter, when officers pulled behind the vehicle, the driver thew the car in reverse ramming the patrol car, then sped away.

Original report: According to East Precinct radio traffic, around 1:20 PM police were pursuing a car driven by a male suspect wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant. As the car attempted to elude the pursuit, the driver allegedly rammed into the SPD cruiser before continuing to speed away. Police found the vehicle ditched near 10th and E Denny Way where a foot pursuit began for the three occupants of the car.

One suspect who was apprehended at the scene of the vehicle suffered a head laceration during the chase. The warrant suspect was seen fleeing the area as he jumped a fence behind the Castle store and fled before being chased down and shot with a taser gun near Julia’s. A third suspect described as a white female wearing a navy blue hoodie was last seen leaving the are walking north on Broadway near E Thomas. UPDATE: The female suspect is also in custody.

According to jail records, the warrant suspect has a significant criminal record including car theft, burglary and drug possession. The suspect, who just celebrated his 21st birthday, was most recently busted for possessing car theft tools after stealing and prowling cars on Capitol Hill and Queen Anne.

Seattle Police are still searching for the second female suspect in the incident. The three that were initially detained were all found to have outstanding warrants.
