Pick the bones of pizza past at Piecora’s auction

Final Night at Piecora's Pizza in Capitol Hill SeattleNext Thursday morning will be an exciting one for restauranteurs starting their first businesses or looking to upgrade gear — and a bittersweet start to the day for fans of Piecora’s, the longtime Capitol Hill pizza joint that shuttered in April as its owners retired and sold the property to apartment developers.

A “commercial and industrial” auctioneer will be at the site of the now-shuttered E Madison pizza parlor for a sale including “Restaurant Equipment & Furnishings.” Unless you’re in the market for a “Bakers Pride 2-deck gas pizza oven,” the auction might not have much to offer but sad nostalgia.

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 9.37.55 AMStill, fans might be interested in the small-print section at the end of the big-time equipment listings:

Assortment of SS tables and sinks, bakers table, dishware, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, tableware, inserts, food warmers, chafing dishes, wire racks, tray carts, proof box on casters, portable catering cabinet, catering & festival equipment, umbrellas, New CAMBRO 48” portable bar, framed prints, photos, neon beer signs, light fixtures, decor items, (3) upright pianos, antique furniture, ladders, DA-LITE portable projector screen, SAM4S SER7000 cash register, TEMPA 36” dia shop fan & much more

Yeah, you probably want a Piecora’s piano. Meanwhile, you may not know it when some old Piecora’s tableware is added to the shabby chic arsenal at the cafe up the street. Hopefully, you’ll recognize a few framed prints and photos as they get redistributed through the food and drink neighborhood and the spirit of the place gets carried forward.

The Piecora’s auction is Thursday, May 15th at 1401 E Madison, starting at 9 AM. The auction brochure (PDF) is available here.
