Seattle Fire rushed to 11th Ave early Friday morning to battle a fire reported in the center of a construction project at 11th and Union.

SFD began the response around 3 AM and had rallied multiple trucks to the scene within 10 minutes as flames and smoke were spotted coming from the center of the multi-story construction site.

The mid-block 11th Ave fire was described as “relatively small” by one SFD unit at the scene and was quickly brought under control once firefighters gained access to the site.

The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze on a drizzly morning. We are not aware of any reported injuries.

We have not yet confirmed which project suffered the fire. The Broadstone Capitol Hill project under construction at 11th and Union is a mixed-use, 250-unit apartment building from Alliance Realty Partners. On 11th closer to Pike, developer Dunn + Hobbs is creating the office, restaurant and market project, Chophouse Row.

UPDATE: SFD says the project damaged was the Broadstone building. We’ll have more details on cause soon.

UPDATE x2: A Seattle Fire spokesperson tells CHS the cause of the fire was determined to be improperly discarded smoking material in a chemical toilet on the roof of the project. Flames did an estimated $10,000 in damage.
