• East Precinct prostitution: The FBI recently announced prostitution busts in Washington State and the Seattle area by the Child Exploitation Task Forces. “Three minors were rescued and nine people arrested in the Seattle-metro area as part of a nationwide child-prostitution sting,” KIRO Radio reported. Officials were unable to tell CHS if any of the busts coincided with a flurry of anti-prostitution arrests in the south end of the East Precinct in recent months. There have been handfuls of arrests of both prostitutes and patrons near 12th and Jackson and 10th and King. Following the FBI announcement, we noted two more busts in the same area so SPD enforcement apparently continues.
• North Capitol Hill burglary suspect arrested: A north Capitol Hill homeowner caught a burglar in the act Monday morning. Here is the SPD report on the arrest:

  A homeowner chased away a burglar who attemped to pry open a window in the victim’s home. This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., the victim was at his home in the 1500 block of E. Olin Place packing up his laptop computer and preparing to leave for the day when he heard a noise coming from a window behind him. The victim turned around and saw an unknown man attempting to pry the window open.

  The victim waved his hands above his head toward the suspect to alert him to his presence. The suspect saw the victim and ran from the window. The suspect vaulted over a metal fence surrounding the property and ran southbound on 15th AVE E.

  Officers quickly arrived at the scene and spoke with the complainant. While conducting their search, officers noticed a man matching the suspect’s description running southbound on 15th AVE E in the middle of the street.

  The suspect boarded a King County Metro Bus. Officers stopped the bus and escorted the man off the bus.  The complainant responded to the scene where he positively identified the suspect as the man who attempted to break into his home.

  The 24-year-old man was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary.

• Former Hill regular sentenced in murder: Gary Raub, the homeless man who frequented Capitol Hill before his 2012 arrest in a four decade-old murder case in Maine, has been convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime.
• Copper theft arrest:

  The owner of the buildings on the northeast corner of 23rd and Union reports that this guy was busted Monday trying to rip off copper wiring from rooftop communications equipment:
  If your Tmobile or Sprint doesn’t work in the CD you can blame this junkie dick head. We caught him cutting away copper wire from both companies’ cell tower equipment today. In broad daylight he was just disconnecting and chopping away.
  We haven’t been able to find record of the arrest yet — SPD’s system seems to be churning through a weekend backlog — but we’ll update when we learn more.

• Dogs on cat attack: Can you help track down the owner of two dogs who reportedly left the scene of an attack on a neighborhood cat at 14th/Union after giving a false name and phone number Saturday morning?
