On the List | Capitol Hill Art Walk, Volunteer Park Picnic + Outdoor Theater Fest, Bastille Bash

Prime time summer weather is here! So are lots of events and happenings on and around Capitol Hill this weekend.

Ryan WeatherlyThursday offers the monthly Capitol Hill Art Walk and the second annual Volunteer Park Picnic. Art walk highlights include the testing of a Rube Goldberg-inspired machine plus collecting of stories of failure at The Project Room, curated videos on loop in the Northwest Film Forum lobby, and a multimedia installation entitled The Family Connection by Grant Rehnberg at Fred Wildlife Refuge. Do both!  The Asian Art Museum offers free admission during the art walk and it is conveniently located across from the Volunteer Park Picnic. The picnic has free stuff too: music, ice cream, lemonade, and cupcakes. spurning_at_the_wedding_595The annual Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival fills Volunteer Park with drama. Eight theater companies stage 14 performances of 10 plays using the amphitheater and the museum lawn. All performances are free; here’s the schedule of performances so you can dream in midsummer without much ado or love’s labour lost. Sorry. (Not really.)

bastille-day-2300Seattle Francophiles look forward to the annual Bastille Bash in Madison Valley, taking place on Saturday on East Madison Street. The Bastille Bash and features bites, sips, live music, performances, and more.

Also on Saturday, stop into The Cuff to wish a very happy 18-year birthday to The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of St. Joan. The charitable organization will be announcing their annual grant awards before the nuns get too naughty. Starts at 7pm.

naamHead to Judkins St. Cafe on Sunday for Neighborhood Night, 5 – 8pm. There will be raffles, crafts, ballpark snacks and beverages.  The event is is produced by the Northwest African American Museum staff and supporters in conjunction with their current exhibition “Pitch Black: African American Baseball in Washington.” the cafe is located at 2608 South Judkins St, and there’s $10 suggested donation.
