IMG_9978Weird and totally DIY, Vibrations Festival brought music and art to the Volunteer Park amphitheater Sunday afternoon and into the evening.

Art projects and light projections joined “Choose Your Own Adventure”-style  installations as bands and DJs took the stage to continue the run of the annual celebration of Capitol Hill culture that got its start back in 2011.

Acts Gazebos, netcat, Wimps, USF, Stickers, DJAO, Midday Veil, and Naomi Punk took the stage.

You can see the roster of participating musicians, DJs, and artists here.

The 2014 edition of the festival from music, art, and fashion concern Cairo pushed forward without a major corporate sponsor with help from a small army of support and lots of blood, sweat, and tears from dedicated producers:

We raised money for Vibrations in a few different ways this year, including all the awesome people that donated via the Indie Go Go campaign. We had a few fundraising parties and have some local companies that sponsored the festival. They will be at the festival with retail and food booths in exchange for their donation. We’d love to help get the word about Vibrations but also the great businesses that will be there who helped fund it. They include: Patty Pan GrillAnalog CoffeeHigh Five PiesSix StrawberriesKimberlin Silver Co.Rachel RavitchBlackbirdHerbivore BotanicalsDebacle Records, Vintage records by Beats and Bohos and Spin Cycle, Tarot with Hit the Deck Tarot and Aura Readings with Samantha Parrott.

Producers say that the support made it possible for a smaller budget-style Vibrations to move forward.

The free event in Volunteer Park followed the previous week’s annual return of the Capitol Hill Block Party in Pike/Pine. Capitol Hill will celebrate its third music festival in three weeks this coming weekend as the Summit Block Party returns. You can learn more about Sunday’s music and fun here. Here’s a look at the 2013 SBP.

UPDATE: More free music — Linda’s Fest is coming: It’s been a hot, sticky summer, so we’re gonna up the grime ante with a monstrous FREE rock party in the parking lot behind Linda’s Tavern! On Saturday, August 23rd from 5 to 10pm, Linda’s Tavern is proud to present our Fifth Annual Linda’s Fest!
