Sorry about being a broken record on this topic to anyone who will listen, but other than at very busy pedestrian intersections where you have safety in numbers, city walkers are way safer adopting the practice of crossing mid block than they are trusting some random driver to stop at a light where you have no idea who is behind that wheel and no idea what’s going on in their vehicle or for that matter in their life, not to mention the fact that single pedestrians fit quite neatly behind those wide windshield suport pillars they use in newer cars for increased rollover protection. What’s the odds of some random driver rolling through or making a turn across a crosswalk against the light, 1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in 1000? How many times in a year do you cross at intersections where you’re relying on random people to not run over you? How long before you’ve used up all your good luck?
