Which is more frightful? The $100 ticket price *or* the marketing of the “ghosts” of “mistreated slaves” for a “haunted mansion party” Saturday night at First Hill’s landmark Stimson-Green house?

For a hundred bucks plus fees, you fan find out at Seattle event producer Kayla Cook’s October 25th Haunted Mansion Party:

Are you ready for a scare? Join us at the Stimson-Green Mansion for the first annual Haunted Mansion Party. Rumor has it, the mansion is haunted….

Built in 1832, this Seattle based mansion is reputed to be haunted by several mistreated slaves – a story stemming from a fire in the building in 1834, when neighbors found tortured slaves chained up in the attic by owner, better known as a prominent Seattle socialite and, it would later be discovered, serial killer…..

Your Ticket Includes: Admission to the party, Hosted Premium Bar (Open ALL Night!), Signature Cocktails, Tricks & Treats, Appetizers, Entertainment and a Live Haunting Burlesque Performance by Lily Verlaine.

$100 per person
(VERY Limited Quantity, this party will sell out!)

UPDATE 10/21/2014 11 AM: The promoter has removed references to the ghosts of slaves from the event’s marketing sites and Facebook event page.

The party is part of a busy Saturday of events as Capitol Hill and surrounding neighborhoods kick off a week of Halloween carnivals, parties and trick or treating. October 25th will also include Hilloween 2014 in Cal Anderson and a Halloween costume crawl on 15th Ave E.

Their website says that the house was completed in 1901…so someone’s wrong.

The mansion is not haunted, and no ‘slaves’ were ever kept in the attic, or anywhere else in the house.
I worked there for 7 years under the auspices of Priscilla Bullitt Collins, the grand-daughter of the builder of the home, and have an intimate knowledge of the history of the home.
Kayla Cook is marketing a farce. How dare she cast such misinformation on one of Seattle’s first, and most philanthropic, families.

Too bad the Denny party did’t find this in 1851!

That was just my thought. Actually, given the year, Kayla Cook seems to have confused Seattle with somewhere in the South…

At first I thought the admission price was the most frightening aspect then I read it includes an open top shelf bar. Even still, I can’t drink that much. But it sounds like I’d need to to believe their story.

Kayla Cook’s “haunted story” is very similar to the very popular story of the Madame Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans, almost exactly so in fact. Read on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphine_LaLaurie or http://neworleans.about.com/od/historicneworleans/a/New-Orleans-Most-Haunted-House-And-The-Slave-Torture-Lalaurie-Legend.htm

Anybody who has gone on a ghost tour of the French Quarter will be familiar with this story- slaves tied up in the attic, fire ravages the mansion, etc. Unfortunately, this really did happen in 1834 at 1140 Royal Street. Trying to take this historical story and make it apply to this mansion in Seattle to market a bourgeois Halloween party- try again…

A friend tells me it’s almost totally copied from a plotline from a previous season’s American Horror Story, I think it was.

That’s sorta right. AHS based Kathy Bates’ character on the real-life Delphine LaLaurie.

Jeez people, give it a rest, it’s just for Halloween, and a little bit of marketing for the party, no need to always correct people on this sites, trolls trolling sites….thanks for the information, and everyone enjoy the party and holiday spirits.

No you don’t — you cannot excuse the tasteless lines concerning the “chained slaves” and the emphasis on slavery that never occurred. That is reprehensible and goes well beyond a cutsie good-time for party goers.

Why not a ghost story about the Klondike gold rush, or something about lumber barons? Seems like that would give it more verisimilitude…

Everyone can calm down… The Stimson-Green Mansion is NOT actually haunted. It is a beautiful venue and in my opinion a perfect setting for a Halloween party! Come join us on Saturday – See for yourself!
