A crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle sent the rider to the hospital with serious injuries Monday morning just after 10 AM at E Olive Way and Summit.
Details on the collision are still being gathered. The cyclist was reported to be unconscious in the moments following the “severe impact” crash near the busy, curving intersection.
A witness reports that a white van hit the and the bike collided and the rider was not wearing a helmet. UPDATE: We’ve been told by another witness that the rider was, indeed, helmeted at the time of the collision. Another account from the scene shows police interviewing a person near a white van. Seattle Fire reports that the injuries were believed to be “non life threatening.” UPDATE x2: We should have been more precise with our language in what we know about this incident at this time. We’ve updated the description of the incident as a collision and struck reference to what hit what until we learn more. UPDATE x3: SPD informs us that the incident required no collision investigation so there are no police reports documenting the crash.
SFD transported car vs bicycle pt. to HMC non life threatening injuries. This incident occurred at 100 blk of Summit Ave E.

Any update on this story?
Are you an eye witness?
The biker was in fact wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. It was removed by EMT, as he was strapped onto the medical backboard. I called 911 and the EMT, Fire truck and police officer were very quick to respond. Hoping for the best for the biker!
We’ll update the post

The bicycle was in fact, struck by the white van. This article needs to be updated. Police reports are available. Fact check!
No where in the report does it say that the person was struck by the van…fact check yourself.
My son was the cyclist who was struck. I know what I am talking about. Any eye witnesses out there?
