Friday, November 28th – Sunday November 30th

Business Name: Freeman

Year Opened on Capitol Hill: Nearly four months.

Tell us about your business: We’re a men’s clothing, outerwear and accessories store focused around our brand, Freeman, which has made raincoats, flannel shirts and other staple items right here in Seattle since 2010. In addition to the full Freeman line, we carry around 25 other brands that share our aesthetic: timeless, well-crafted goods made right here in the USA. We’re proud to say that everything we stock is American-made.

What is the best thing about having a business on Capitol Hill? In the short time we’ve been open, we already feel like we’re members in a community. We’ve learned that Capitol Hill is more than just a neighborhood – it’s a family of awesome, interesting people, and the businesses here reflect that. We truly could not be happier that we opened up shop on the Hill.

Why is it important for people to shop local, especially around the holidays? Everyone assumes that with the advent of online shopping and big-box stores, the notion of independent retail stores in an antiquated one and that you simply can’t help but to give in and shop big. We strongly disagree. Small, local stores offer the stellar service and curated selection that bigger, corporate stores simply cannot, and by choosing to shop local, you’re putting your money back into the local economy, allowing homegrown brands and stores that focus on ethically- and domestically-made products (like ours!) to grow and flourish. People complain all the time about the commercialization of great neighborhoods like Capitol Hill – by shopping small and local, you’re voting with your dollar to keep this commercialization at bay. The holidays are the biggest time of year for retail, so now is the time to make your statement. We hope you make it with us and our peers!
