  • Bar rip-off: A Capitol Hill bar was nailed for $1,500 earlier this month in a recurring scam Seattle City Light has been trying to warn customers about. Here’s how the ruse played out:
Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 11.41.41 AM“In retrospect it all falls apart (online billing records show no such balance, the phone number itself doesn’t show on Seattle City Lights website, etc) but it was so scary to imagine losing our ability to operate, staff losing hours, etc that we went into a blind panic,” the victim of the scam tells CHS. She said the timing of the call was unfortunately perfect with her fears about the prospect about being closed for a three-day weekend overwhelming her sense. She says the hope for nailing these bad guys is slim but that there’s a chance insurance can help them recoup the lost cash.
  • Yesler Terrace shooting: Police are investigating after “two masked suspects” reportedly “shot and wounded a man in an apparent robbery” near 27th and Yesler Monday night.
  • I-5 fall: A man died early Tuesday morning after he fell onto an I-5 freeway ramp near a homeless camp below James Street. CHS has reported on several similar falls over the years including this September incident in which the victim later died from his injuries.
  • Malicious harassment arrest: Police arrested a man this weekend for a reported attack involving threats to stab and gay slurs. The 37-year-old, who has not been charged yet in the incident, has a lengthy list of less serious run-ins with the law in Kitsap County.
Knife-Wielding Suspect Arrested After Chasing Men, Yelling Slurs On Capitol Hill
Written by Andrew Garber on January 26, 2015 11:26 am
Officers arrested a 37-year-old man early Sunday for threatening three men with a knife on Capitol Hill and yelling derogatory remarks about their sexual orientation. Shortly after midnight, a victim flagged down officers patrolling the area on foot and pointed out a man chasing one of his friends with a knife. Officers quickly came to their assistance and saw the suspect holding a knife. They ordered him to the ground, confiscated the weapon and arrested him. The victims told police they were crossing the intersection at Harvard Avenue and East Pike Street when the suspect began yelling slurs, threatened to stab them and began chasing them with a knife. One of the victims ran to Broadway to flag down officers and alert them to the attack. The victims were not injured in the incident. Police booked the suspect into King County Jail on felony assault and malicious harassment charges.
  • Harvard Market parking lot wrestlers: SPD was called to the report of a brawl in the parking lot above Pike and Broadway early last Saturday morning around 3:45 AM. Instead, they found these knuckleheads:Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 12.04.15 PMThere were no arrests.

Heads up- 27th and Yesler isn’t Yesler Terrace. It’s east of the Douglass-Truth Library, practically in Leschi.
