On the List | July Capitol Hill Arts Walk gets Block Party boost, Volunteer Park hosts Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival

We’re not sure exactly how this giant inflatable cowboy got involved but as part of its pledge to support the community, Capitol Hill Block Party is putting up $10,000 and joining Starbucks in boosting the monthly Capitol Hill Arts Walk. The 25-foot-tall “Lone Stranger” piece created by artist Piper O’Niell won’t appear in Pike/Pine until the July 24th CHBP weekend but the CHBP influence on the art walk will start being felt Thursday night with this month’s edition of the arts event. In addition to showings at galleries, shops, and cafes across the neighborhood — see capitolhillartwalk.com for July’s listings and map — a gallery of Capitol Hill Block Party poster art will be on display at 11th Ave’s Grim’s while a new art walk happy takes place at 12th Ave Arts:

Meanwhile, the new Weirdo mural on Neumos we mentioned earlier this week along with a few other giant works of art around the area is complete:

Thursday night, Volunteer Park will host one of Gage Academy’s Drawing Jams as the art school releases its popular “everybody make art” concept into the wild to celebrate the academy’s 25th anniversary. Nearby, the Volunteer Park Trust is holding its summer community picnic:

On the bandstand, The Shed Boys will keep toes tapping and the mood light with great
bluegrass music. The Cheese Wizards (grilled cheeses), Dante’s Inferno Dogs (hot dogs
and sausages), Fusion on the Run (Hawaiian tacos), Happy Grillmore (burgers and fries), and Spicy Papaya (Lao and Thai cuisine) will be selling picnic dinners. The picnic will also feature flavored waters for summery refreshment from Aegis Living,
circus performers from SANCA Seattle, and face painting by neighborhood kids.

IMG_8038-600x400Volunteer Park also hosts a weekend of performing arts with GreenStage’s staging of The Noble Kinsmen Friday night and the Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival through the weekend:

Fourteen performances, eight theater companies, two days, one park, no charge! It’s the 15th annual Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival!
