Freedom is free at Cal Anderson Park this Fourth of July. A full day of family friendly events celebrating America’s independence kicks off at 11 AM and will wrap up just in time for fireworks. Enjoy live music while you stuff your face with free hot dogs, free ice cream, a free root beer tasting garden, and pie in an old-timey pie eating contest.

After you’ve had your fill, you’ll want to waddle or bike (but definitely not drive) to one of the many spots on the Hill’s edge to watch fireworks explode over Lake Union. The show typically begins around 10:10 PM. You can tune to 97.3 FM on your radio headphones for a simulcast.

And the patriot party continues on Sunday, when the US women’s national soccer team takes on Japan in the Women’s World Cup final. Cheer on Seattle Reign midfielder Megan Rapinoe and goalkeeper Hope Solo at your favorite sporty bar on Capitol Hill. Kickoff is at 4 PM. USA! USA! USA!

I would just like to give a great big “shout out” to whoever destroyed my American flags I put in my vegetable garden off of 15th. I had two of those little plastic type flags on little wooden sticks that I put out to celebrate the holiday last night, I walk out this morning to check on my vegetables and the flags were tore up, ripped in half, destroyed.

I doubt anyone who goes around vandalizing people’s property frequents this blog, but I still want to put it out there. Someone out there doesn’t give a damn about the country we’re trying to build and gives less of a damn about patriotic vegetables.

At least the plants were unharmed.

I’m still upset though. Thanks for listening and thanks for the great blog and community!
