I recently moved in a CCRC in downtown Seattle. The health care wing is very highly regulated, but there are no laws or rights or protections stated for residents in the independent wing (many of whom have significant disabilities). In retirement I write a blog about end of life issues and have also become a King County Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman. I would greatly appreciate your working with CCRC representatives to bring Washington up to speed with other states – by drafting a passing legislation protecting the financial and health rights of residents in CCRCs. This is an overlooked area and residents feel quite vulnerable. We need a Bill of Rights, laws promoting residents to become Board members, and financial transparency laws with audits assuring fiduciary accountability. Thank you!
