Investigation stretches on in Madison Valley suspicious death case

1012988_10203663623167212_6960263592159199885_n-2Authorities continue to await the results of key toxicology tests in the suspicious death investigation of a 29-year-old Madison Valley woman.

Devan Schmidt was found unconscious and unresponsive around 11 AM Saturday, May 2nd inside the house where she was living with roommates near E Denny Way and 29th Ave E.

Seattle Police say the investigation into the May 2nd suspicious death remains an open case with detectives awaiting results of toxicology tests that authorities hope will pinpoint how the woman died.

Representatives for the Medical Examiner have said it is not unusual for cases to take as much as six to ten weeks to complete. Authorities have not said why pathologists have taken more than 12 weeks to produce results in this case.

Monday, SPD told CHS their investigation remains open and active.

A friend told CHS Schmidt arrived in Seattle late last year after moving from Alaska. She worked as a server in a downtown Seattle comedy bar.

Hi, I’m Devan’s sister, Lia,

First, I would like to say that myself, my husband, our mother, and all of Devan’s many friends and loved ones are completely devastated and our hearts are broken over the murder and loss of our Devi.
She was such an amazing young woman, sister, daughter, aunti, and friend. I, as so many others do, miss her terribly and want who ever took her from this life to be caught and brought to justice.
My sister loved life and tried to live it to the fullest, Inspiring many along the way.
She had such a love of the outdoors, for adventure, for her friends, and her family.
Her laughter and her positive attitude was contagious and her smile would light up a room.
She was one of a kind. She is and will always be missed.
It has been over 13 weeks since she was senselessly taken from us and still no answers.
We ALL hope the S.P.D. gets the evidence they need to find and convict, who did this and soon!

Thank you for your continued support and we’ll wishes.

There is not a day, a second that goes by that Devan isn’t on someone’s mind, somewhere. She had that effect on people. Her positive, glowing energy that one felt when she walked in the room has been halted by a senseless act of murder. She was taken-from all who loved her far, far too soon-but is in a better place watching over those she loved?
Her amazing spirit lives on in so many but all of those who cared for Devie want answers so we can try to have some closure to her no longer being with us on this earth. Her laugh, her smile, her amazing spirit lives on but like her beautiful sister, Lia, stated “we need justice for our sister”.☀️

After 14 1/2 weeks the tragic loss of my friend & sister -in- law has left us all with more questions than answers. Nights consumed by speculation and days painted with reminders sometimes blurry from the tears. The reality of what has happened, the little we do know, relives itself like a bad dream. A brave, beautiful & yes sometimes cocky (one of the things I loved most about her) woman , our sister, our daughter, our friend, and our neighbor has been violently ripped from this world, and its time for us all to get answers.
Give us answers so Devi can rest peacefully, give us answers so her family and friends can grieve properly, give us answers so her neighbors can again live normally. Give us answers so who ever is responsible will no longer sleep in the comfort of their own bed & breath the open air, a luxury our Devi no longer has. We love you Devan and we will not rest until you recieve justice!
