Two classics of the Volunteer Park event calendar return to Capitol Hill this weekend.
Saturday, around 2,000 will converge on the park for the 29th Seattle AIDS Walk:
The 29th annual End AIDS Walk will take place at Volunteer Park in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The walk will feature Seattle band Cataldo, a beer and mimosa garden, HIV testing booth, C89.5 DJ and fabulous local drag queen Aleksa Manila at the finish line. Margaret Larson from KING-5’s New Day Northwest will emcee, and Mayor Ed Murray and Senator Jamie Pedersen will both speak.
More than 100 teams have registered, and close to 2,000 people are expected to participate in the Walk in support of Lifelong’s mission and this year’s theme: “Washington is walking together to End AIDS.”
As a result of Governor Inslee’s announcement of the End AIDS Washington Campaign on World AIDS Day, organizations are working together to reduce new HIV infections by 50% over the next five years. Lifelong has joined forces with Spokane AIDS Network and the Pierce County AIDS Foundation to promote the End AIDS Walks. Lifelong connects those living with HIV to medical care, safe housing and nutritious food, and The End AIDS Walk raises money to support these services.
The consolidated End AIDS Walk route circles Volunteer Park and travels along Broadway and 12th north of John. You can learn more and donate to the cause at endaidswalk.org.
Sunday, Volunteer Park hosts the annual db in the Park with DJs and dancing as part of Seattle’s renowned electronic music festival:

I always wonder why people don’t make the ending time as prominent as the start time, especially for things that some of us are bound to find extremely annoying, like the booming bass of a “music” festival in the park. As far as I can tell, the horrendous music in Volunteer Park will stop invading my house at 7:30 pm on Sunday, which is more merciful than some of the shitshows that go on until 10. http://dbfestival.com/schedule
If it makes you feel better it sucks for us too. Wait until the band shell gets rebuilt. They are planning to have lots more concerts in the park.
I’m sorry the fact we live in a vibrant neighborhood bothers you. I hear North Bend is very quiet. You may want to consider moving there.
There are many vibrant neighborhoods across the world that also have noise pollution ordinances that are enforced. I’m sorry that your only way for resolving differences about how public goods, such as quiet, are used is by telling people who disagree with you to leave.
And what’s your resolution? Making snide comments subsequent to a blog post, in the hopes that your condescension will transmit telepathically to community reps? You come off extremely curmudgeonly.
Well, the snide part aside, it was actually to help people like me who leave their houses for these to know when they can come back, since the event itself lists the start time but not the end time on this website.
You don’t seem sorry Tim. Maybe you believe that Victim of the Bass just hates vibrant neighborhoods and the vibrant people that make neighborhoods so vibrant? Personally I love vibrant neighborhoods. Can’t say I’m too keen on cliched responses to noise complaints that show less than zero empathy. Those are dull, dull, dull.
