  • Carjacking arrest: Seattle Police quickly tracked down and arrested a suspect after a reported gunpoint carjacking attempt near the Silver Cloud hotel at Broadway and Madison early Saturday morning. According to a security bulletin and East Precinct radio traffic, a caller reported the attempted carjacking around 3:05 AM. Police saw the man who was reportedly carrying a handgun fleeing onto the Seattle University campus. After a brief pursuit, the suspect, described as a male in his 30s and heavyset, was was taken into custody by police without incident. There were no reported injuries.
  • Morning muggings: Later Saturday morning didn’t prove to be much safer on the streets around Capitol Hill. First, a woman reported her purse was ripped from her arm in a street robbery reported near E Mercer and Boylston around 9:45 AM. The victim reported that assailant had been on foot but may have fled in a waiting vehicle. The suspect was described as a white or hispanic male in his 40s, around 5′ 9″, wearing a black baseball hat, and carrying the black and off-white purse with a broken strap. Around 15 minutes later, a female victim reported she was injured in an attempted mugging near 10th and Union. Police arriving at the scene were told a small, gray SUV may have been involved in the crime with a suspect described as a young, white male wearing a brown jacket with a gray hoodie. The victim reported head and shoulder pain after the attack and was being treated by Seattle Fire. The daytime street robbery attempts are a relative rarity for the area and reported robberies and muggings have dropped following late summer peaks, according to SPD reports. Police were investigating the possibility that the attempts are related.
  • UPDATE: Another robbery report: Saturday night brought another reported mugging to Capitol Hill. Police were called to the area around Broadway Ct and Union around 11:30 PM where a female victim was jumped and robbed of her purse by a group of six people. A witness who saw the group ditch the purse in a nearby garbage can provided police with descriptions of the suspect including one distinctly dressed female. Police found part of the group walking nearby on 10th Ave including the black female with blonde hair and braces, wearing red pants and boots. The red pants suspect was identified by a witness and taken into custody. The victim was treated at the scene for injuries sustained in the attack.
UPDATE: SPD has posted a report on the incident:
Police arrested a teen for a robbery on Capitol Hill Saturday night after she assaulted a 37-year-old mother and her 17-year-old daughter and took a purse.
The victims were walking on E Union St. near Broadway Court around 11:30 PM when they were approached by a group of two females and four males. The females struck the 37-year-old victim in the face. As she was trying to protect herself from further punches, someone grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground. The suspects also punched the woman’s daughter when she stepped in to defend her mother. After the suspects got the purse they all fled the scene. Witnesses told police that they had seen two males throw a purse into a garbage can after they ran from the scene. Officers located the victim’s purse, but were unable to find her missing her wallet and phone. Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and treated the victims for minor injuries. Police stopped a 17-year-old female near the scene, arrested her for the incident, and booked her into the Youth Services Center for investigation of robbery.
  • UPDATE: And another? A male victim in his 40s was struck over the head and knocked unconscious in an incident early Sunday morning being investigated as a strong-arm robbery. Police were called to investigate the robbery near Summit and Harrison around 3:30 AM Sunday. No further details are yet available on the incident.
  • UPDATE: 23rd Ave DUI crash: A 32-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence following a single-car crash in which the vehicle flipped on a rain-soaked curve of 23rd Ave E Sunday night. The carjacking suspect who fled into the SU campus was chased by Phoenix Jones and crew, not SPD. SPD arrived VERY quickly and arrested the individual.
