On the List | October Capitol Hill Art Walk, 2015 Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Fest, Depressed Cake Shop

Your Capitol Hill weekend starts Thursday night with October’s edition of the Capitol Hill Art Walk.

Here are a few CHAW highlights — as usual, a full roster and super-useful map are at capitolhillartwalk.com.

  • 12th Ave Arts: Art Walk Happy Hour 5–6pm! All ages welcome. Start your art walk here with a social hour to pick up an art walk map and enjoy the upstairs gallery show QUEER AS A THREE DOLLAR BILL: 20 Years of LGBTQ visibility through cinema.
  • Cafe Pettirosso: A photographic journey by McCade Dolan of Cadeography & Willow of Creatrix headdresses. This collaboration showcases their combined, inspired ideas coming together to create a visual celebration of powerful self expression and radiant beauty.
  • Blue Cone Studios: New Studio Opening! View a new and an eclectic variety of art and jewelry while munching on snacks and listening to groovy tunes. With work by Carolyn Hitt, Colton Kenyon, Roberto Hernandez, Michelle McCarthy, Mary P Traverse and more. 5–10p. 1520 11th Ave, Door B
  • Rubix Apartments: “From the Archives” features artists Andrew Carson, Karin Schminke, Melissa Kock, Sara Lavin, Carla Grahn and Bradly Gunn inside the new Rubix apartments. Proceeds from the show, benefit Art With Heart. Complimentary wine and cheese 4–8p. 515 Harvard Ave E
  • Broadcast Coffee: Stories About Us showcases the comics and illustrations of Katie Wheeler. Comics, original work and prints will be available for sale; snacks and beverages during the artist opening 5–8pm.
  • Dendroica Gallery: “Nostalgia and Desire”, a solo show by Lisaann Cohn, Cohn’s intimate drawings explore themes of longing and confinement alongside those of loss, nostalgia and desire. Her introspective, ephemeral dreamscapes suggest a narrative or plot, drawing us in.
  • The Factory: 12 Seconds Max: An immersive wash of artist-made, ultra-short form videos, animations and moving images. At a time when our attention spans compress to milliseconds, we converse in animated GIFs, and we scratch our heads in misty contemplation of what it means to own digital art, we invite you to a curated assemblage of gems from Seattle and beyond. A selection of one-of-a-kind videos specially commissioned for the show will be available for purchase.
  • Saint John’s Bar and Eatery: Rich M Stevens: Surfing Safari in the Elastic Wasteland. A brand new series of mixed media, abstract work using watercolor, paper, thread, plexi, gold leaf and handmade frames. Think TRON meets Primal Scream. On view through early December.
