Tortas Condesa picks up the E Olive Way late night eats beat

The counter at 1510 E Olive Way has helped fuel many a legendary night on Capitol Hill. Tacos Gringos made way for Kedai Makan in 2013. Now, after Kedai Makan graduated into a full-fledged restaurant space around the corner, a new savior for starving, drunken tummies is open.

Last night a torta saved my life…

Tortas Condesa debuted Thursday serving “Mexico City style” sandwiches created with the love and vision of Monica Dimas and designed for portability to Montana and its curbside streatery just down the hill:

HOUSE CHORIZO

Housemade chorizo, fried egg*, avocado, cilantro, smoked chili mayo, cotija

PULLED PORK

Pulled pork, tomatillo salsa, caramelized onions & peppers, cilantro, cumin mayo, cabbage

CHARRED BROCOLINI

Charred brocolini, spicy mushrooms, pickled red onions, cilantro

HOLÉ MOLE

Mole, braised beef, cotija, pickled red onion, cilantro, smoked chili mayo

JALAPEÑO

Caramelized Onions & jalapeños,fried egg*, cumin mayo, cabbage, cilantro

THE “MONTANA”

Ground beef, onions, carrots, potatoes, tomato, cabbage, cilantro, crema

You’ll find no ghosts of Tacos Gringos. Seattle Met reports even the sweets come in sandwich form:

Namely a short but enticing list of ice cream sandwiches supplied by local newcomer R&D Ice Cream, including brownies with cayenne chocolate or avocado ice cream, toffee Rice Krispie treats with vanilla ice cream…you get the idea. (Per any Seattle establishment worth its dietary-restrictive salt, there will be gluten free and vegan options.)

The opening marks Dimas’s second collaboration with team Montana in 2015. She opened the Neon Taco window inside Broadway Mexi-faux dive bar Nacho Borracho early this year.

Tortas Condesa is located at 1510 E Olive Way and is open daily from 4 PM to “late.” You can learn more at tortascondesa.com.

it would be great if all restaurant owners would not only post their menus but also the prices on their sites. i know most do but many, like this place and kedai makan, don’t.

knowing how much i’ll be paying to eat your food would help me decide if it’s worth it to me.

I’m guessing there’s a reason they’re not printing prices.

I agree.

When I went Saturday night, all the tortas were $10.96 ($10+tax). Cash and cards accepted.

This is a Mexico City style Mexican restaurant. You’d be hard pressed to find vegan anything in Mexico City.
