Woman rescued from E Madison donation bin — UPDATE: Blotter

A night soaked with heavy rain included an unusual rescue for the Seattle Fire Department.

Seattle Police called for a rescue response overnight after a woman was found trapped inside a clothing donation bin behind the gas station at near 16th and Madison early Monday morning.

The woman was uninjured in the callout just before 3 AM but had reportedly climbed into the bin and was unable to get out, according to East Precinct radio dispatches.

Seattle Fire rolled out a multiple-unit “heavy rescue” response to evaluate the situation but most units were quickly turned loose. We don’t know how the woman was rescued from the big, blue bin. A Seattle Fire spokesperson said she didn’t have information about how the woman was ultimately rescued.

UPDATE 10:10 AM: Meanwhile, SPD reports the previous night brought a break-in at First Hill’s Seattle First Baptist Church in which the perpetrator suffered a serious laceration:

Police arrested a man early Sunday after he brought a six-pack of beer to the midnight service at a Capitol Hill church, which doesn’t have a midnight service. Officers were called to the church in the 1100 block of Harvard Avenue around 1:15 AM after a witness spotted the suspect smashing a window. The witness informed the suspect he was calling 911, but the undeterred suspect continued into the church. Police arrived at the scene, found the intoxicated suspect pacing around an altar, and took him into custody. When officers questioned him about the burglary, after learning nothing had been taken, the suspect disputed that he’d broken into the church, and said he was under the impression churches were open 24 hours a day. Medics took the 47-year-old suspect to Harborview Medical Center so he could receive treatment for a hand laceration sustained during the break-in. Officers later booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary.

UPDATE: 12:15 PM: Sigh. It’s Capitol Hill people in crisis running afoul of the law day on the SPD Blotter. Here’s another :(

What do Ford Mustangs, green bell peppers and police have in common? All three were on the receiving end of a one-man rampage early Sunday at a parking garage on Capitol Hill. A witness called 911 at 1:30 Sunday morning when the man wandered into a parking garage in the 1400 block of 12 Ave. Once inside the garage, the man reportedly started checking car door handles and eventually threw a garbage can and hand dolly into a Ford Mustang, causing almost $4,000 in damage. The 33-year-old suspect then broke into a walk-in freezer in the garage, where continued his smashing spree, singling out a $50 batch of green bell peppers for destruction. When police arrived, the suspect tried to flee. When one officer attempted to subdue the man as he walked through a doorway, the suspect slammed the door on the officer, who was still able to prevent the man from escaping. Officers were able to get the suspect in handcuffs and booked him into King County Jail for property destruction. Police don’t yet know what sparked his Sunday morning outburst.

UPDATE 3:56 PM: Holy crap, another. SPD was busy and, perhaps, SPD Blotter writer has a quota to hit? Here’s another report of Hill badness from the weekend — this one involving an alleged hate crime:

A 24-year-old man was arrested by police on Capitol Hill early this morning after he pulled a knife on a man who had complimented his shoes. The suspect reportedly walked past the victim outside the R Place nightclub at Boylston Avenue and East Pine Street around 1 AM. When the victim offered his unsolicited approval of the suspect’s Timberland boots, the 24-year-old man responded with a homophobic slur. He then pulled out a knife and charged at the victim, who ran into R Place and contacted security. The suspect continued east on Capitol Hill until he stopped at another bar in the 1100 block of E. Pike St. The suspect tried to enter the bar, presenting an expired ID card at the door, but a bouncer refused to let him inside. The suspect tried to start a fight with the bouncer, only to be rebuffed. He then drew a blade from his boot and rushed at the bouncer, who slammed the bar’s door in the man’s face. A witness reported seeing the suspect stab the bar’s door several times before walking away. An officer spotted the man moments later at 10th Ave and Pike St. and took him into custody. Police booked the suspect into the King County jail for harassment, malicious harassment and a warrant out of Wenatchee.
