  • Capitol Hill NYE fires: Seattle Fire and SPD responded to a small string of garbage fires around Pike/Pine Thursday night. There were no reported injuries and limited damage in the incidents CHS is aware of. In the pictures above, a trash can at the bus stop on E Pine near Broadway went up in flames around 11 PM. Earlier in the night, another can smoldered near Cal Anderson. There’s no indication yet that the fires were related. We’ll check with SFD about the can fires and another rubbish fire reported later in the night at 13th and Denny.

  • CD fire: Fire crews were busy in the early hours of the new year with a house fire near E Terrace and Marion that reportedly involved a hot frying pan and a deck. SFD was called to the area just after 3 AM to deal with the incident. There were no reported injuries.
  • E Pike fire: Seattle Fire tackled a stubborn wall fire started near a fireplace inside the Pike Lofts Wednesday afternoon. The incident just after noon in the 300 block of E Pike brought out a large response to the busy street. “Fire in Pike Lofts, damaged 2 units, no injuries, all pets accounted for. Grateful for super fast SFD response,” a resident reports.
  • 12th/Alder protest: Participants said at least one person was arrested during a march and New Year’s Eve protest against the King County Juvenile Detention center at 12th and Alder. The 2015/2016 edition of what has become an annual “noise demo” protest included a march from Seattle Central “in response to the non-indictment of officers in the murder of Tamir Rice.” We have not confirmed the arrest with police.
