  • 911 response times: SPD presented a report (PDF) to the City Council Wednesday morning showing its numbers on response times to 911 calls across the city. According to the dataset, it takes East Precinct officers one more minute on average to respond to the highest priority 911 calls than it did in 2010. In that time, the call volume for the high priority calls in East Precinct has swelled by 37%.Presentation (added 1-26-16)_avg Presentation (added 1-26-16)_total
  • Broadway mugging: Police investigated a January 17th street robbery on Broadway near Pike and Pine of a North Seattle man but had little to go on as the attack wasn’t reported for hours after the incident:Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 3.51.04 PMThe victim’s account of the 1:30 AM mugging is similar to street robberies described around Capitol Hill over the summer. There were no arrests. After a busy summer for street robberies, things have been mostly quiet across Capitol Hill though police are investigating a gunpoint carjacking at 12th and Denny and an armed hold-up on 15th Ave E from last weekend.
  • E Denny Way robbery: A woman told police she was assaulted and robbed somewhere around the 500 block of E Denny Way around midnight on January 20th but that she doesn’t remember anything about the attack that left her with scrapes, bruises, and chipped teeth. According to police, the intoxicated victim was walking home from a party at a 14th Ave E residence when she was jumped but she was unable to recall much of what happened next:Screen Shot 2016-01-28 at 2.56.28 PM
  • Burglary investigated by neighbors: Neighbors around E Madison have been doing some sleuthing and want SPD’s attention to help track down the burglars a homeowner says were caught on camera. Users of the Nextdoor group for the area worked together to track down possible suspects in the January 22nd crime but so far say SPD hasn’t taken them up on their offer of providing sleuthed evidence. A TV, miter saw, camera, and eBike were stolen in the break-in.Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 4.13.17 PM
  • $12,000 Madison Valley burglary: Burglary detectives tallied another break-in in Mad Valley after a brazen burglar apparently broke in to a 2900 block E Harrison home and stole nearly $12,000 worth of electronics and jewelry — all while a woman slept downstairs. According to the SPD report on the heist, the thief made entrance by removing a glass panel from one of the house’s doors.
  • Booms? Loud fireworks in the middle of the night early Tuesday set off a wave of more than 20 911 callers from around Capitol Hill reporting the explosions. The booms were the latest in a recent uptick in pyrotechnic activity in the neighborhood. Police say to continue calling 911 to report the incidents.
  • Minor/Pike assault: Police responded to a scary report that fortunately wasn’t as bad it sounded January 19th just before 3 AM when a caller at the Wintonia building at Minor and Pike said a man with a machete had attacked a woman inside the building. Police arrived to find the victim had suffered only a cut to her chin. The suspect was seen running from the building and taken into custody nearby. Police recovered a large knife ditched outside during the chase.
  • E Pike burglary: An alarm set off during a break-in just after midnight on January 19th brought police to a business in the 500 block of E Pike to investigate. Inside, police found signs that somebody had unsuccessfully attempted to pry open a register after having sneakily placed a “pamphlet” in the door to block it from locking. The lesson: Check your doors for pamphlets.
  • Rape charge: Seattle PI reports an awful crime in the Central District in which a Seattle man is accused of “disabling a woman’s wheelchair and sexually assaulting her.”
