Capitol Hill Community Post | Physical theater play “Seattle” to premiere in Xalapa, Mexico and Capitol Hill in April

eliaandnancyinxalapaAdrian Vázquez, Nancy López Luna and local Seattle dancer Elia Mrak will premiere the play “Seattle” on April 21 in the Teatro del Estado, Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico on April 21.

“Seattle” will then premiere in Seattle on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, at 8:00 pm, at the Erickson Theater in Capitol Hill.

This unique multicultural play will be performed in both languages in both countries.

“Seattle” is a physical theater play that tells the story of two individual lives. Their intertwined destiny intends to unite them through dance, sports, music, and different historical events. But life has a rebellious spirit that toys with their journeys, tosses them to and fro, and keeps pushing back their inevitable encounter.

“Seattle” is a dreamlike and moving story of encounters, intersections, and near misses, both intimate, and familiar. It is at the same time personal, sincere, and powerful; it tells the dramatic through a smile.

Constructed using various theatrical elements, “Seattle” uses precise physicality and colorful text to tell the story of a couple that was destined to meet. This play confronts the rawness and cruelty of life, but also the possibility to transorm these dark realities through the vitality of two people.

“Seattle” is directed and written by Adrian Vázquez / Los Tristes Tigres (México) and performed by Nancy López Luna and Elia Mrak. The Executive Producers are Ripcity Dance of Seattle and Ethnofit Studio of Mexico City. Ripcity Dance is a new dance company in Seattle, producing shows, offering dance classes for families to take together, and run by local Capitol Hill community resident Steven Ripley.

Tickets are on sale now for the “Seattle” production on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, 8:00 pm, at the Erickson Theater on Capitol Hill. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 at the door, available at seattleinseattle.brownpapertickets.com.

Each performance will be accompanied by an after-show talk about the production and the artistic creation process.
