Who should CHS nominate for the 2016 ‘Spirit of the Hill’ award?

The Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations this year for its annual Spirit of the Hill award. Last year’s winner was a questionable choice. More worthy past award recipients include light rail station development community advocate Catherine Hillenbrand, Cal Anderson Park champion Kay Rood, and preservation-minded developer Michael Malone.

But who — in 2016! — best exemplifies Capitol Hill through “community service, excellence, and passion for the neighborhood?” Sorry, the nominations are for chamber members only. But you can let us know who CHS should put on the list in the comment below.

More about the award and the chamber’s big event at caphillchamber.org.

This year’s State of the Hill Address will be the first for our Executive Director, Sierra Hansen. The evening will be MC’d by local draglesquer, producer, and activist – The Lady B. We’ll have an assortment of delicious bites from Lost Lake, Poquitos, and Big Mario’s. DJ Blueyedsoul will be spinning great tracks throughout the evening and the Awesome Witch of Rad will be offering guests intuitive readings. We will also be raffling off prizes from local businesses throughout the evening!

The State of the Hill event is a celebration of organizations and individuals who make Capitol Hill a fun, safe, diverse and vibrant place to visit, live and relax. The Chamber will be presenting the 2015 Spirit Award to an individual, organization or business that has shown an outstanding commitment to the Capitol Hill community. The Spirit Award represents the best of Capitol Hill through community service, excellence, and passion for this neighborhood.

Nominations will be accepted until April 5th and while the recipient does not need to be a Chamber member, you must be one to nominate. Send your nominations to [email protected] and make sure to let us know who they are and why they deserved to be recognized.

Well Central Coop should be on the list for sure. Its such a great a store with amazing food. I run into friends there all the time so it just feels like part of the community. I don’t shop there all the time, although I wish I could, but when I shop at QFC or Safeway, it doesn’t feel the same there.

He’s the one constant in the ever-changing landscape of Capitol Hill. (please find a Chamber member to nominate him)

He certainly deserves it. He’s always adding to celebrations. He also is always picking up around the hood.

I say Joe the Bucket Drummer. He’s enterprising, oozes exuberance, and represents the soul of Capitol Hill, past and present. And, it’s just right that a homeless person be acknowledged as an anchor to Capitols Hill’s social and economic essence.
