  • Burglary rash? A March 30th burglary of a Broadway restaurant’s safe appears to be part of a rash of break-ins with similar targets. According to the SPD report on the March 30th incident, the owner of a restaurant in the 600 block of Broadway E told police the burglary “was possibly the work of an ex-employee because of how specific the break in was” —Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 1.57.45 PMThe overnight burglary netted the thief $600 in cash, three gift cards worth about $200, and $1,200 in “tip checks” that the owner told police could be canceled. Police were able to recover fingerprints from the skylight. According to SPD, another Capitol Hill restaurant was targeted and had its safe stolen overnight early on the morning of Monday, April 4th in the 1100 block of E Pike. Sunday, a burglar entered a building in the 1000 block of E Pike to burgle Sam’s Tavern and make off with an undisclosed amount of cash. SPD is investigating.
  • 13/Union fire: Seattle Fire made quick work of a reported “closet fire” in a condo building on 13th Ave near Union Tuesday morning. Residents stood outside barefoot and in pajamas as firefighters dealt with the first-floor blaze. A flaming clothes hamper was seen pulled out into the alley as SFD worked to clear the space. Damage was limited to the area where the fire began and smoke cleared quickly enough for residents to reenter the building just in time to get ready for work. The Seattle Fire Marshal is investigating to determine the cause of the blaze.
  • Carjacking: A police chase of a carjacking suspect that ended with a crash that tied up the I-90 tunnel Tuesday morning began in the Leschi/Frink Park area long Lake Washington, Seattle Police say. According to the brief on the chase and crash, the suspect implied he had a gun and stole a vehicle from a family around 4:10 AM in the 500 block of Lakeside Ave S. The suspect was taken into custody after the crash.
