Group wrestles knife away after man makes threats on E Pine

A group struggled to hold down a man armed with a knife until police could arrive to take him into custody Saturday night on E Pine.

According to the SPD report on the incident and East Precinct radio dispatches, police rushed to the area after a report that a male suspect had attempted to stab another man in a confrontation near Pine and Belmont. The suspect with the knife was threatening to kill the victim he attacked before being wrestled to the ground by others at the scene.

Several police units rushed to area during the struggle and arrived within three minutes of the initial call just before 10 PM. The group was able to take away the knife from the suspect who was taken into custody and identified by the victim and the witness for police.

There were no reported significant injuries.

The suspect was convicted for being in possession of heroin after a 2012 incident in downtown Seattle in which he threatened a victim with a knife. He is currently being held in King County Jail on investigation of assault and felony harassment.

It was quite courageous of the group to do what they did…..they could easily have been injured by the knife. In doing so, they may have saved someone’s life.
