On the List | Capitol Hill Art Walk, streetcar celebration, Volunteer Park plant sale, Pierogi Fest, 43rd District debate

May’s Capitol Hill Art Walk headlines this week’s countdown of fun and interesting things to do on and around Capitol Hill. As a bonus, the neighborhood’s celebration of the First Hill Streetcar coincides with Thursday’s night of Capitol Hill arts:

Celebrate the First Hill Streetcar opening with fun interactive performances and visual arts installations at the new Streetcar stops from 6 – 9pm on May 12th! The E Pike and Broadway stop will feature live performances.  Just Sage shares theatrical comedic magic under the guise of one of his most popular characters, Winston Winthrop. Streetshowkeith performs  juggling, feats of dexterity, and prestitidigitation: a spectacle of crowd interaction. Poet William Curtis writes poems on a topic of your choice. Contortionist clown Vega Bonita specializes in ribbon dances, bendy balancing, and confetti kisses. Sponsored by Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and SDOT. Enjoy a one-night only visual arts installation at the new Denny and Broadway Streetcar stop by Kathleen Warren from Urban Artworks. Passers-by can add to paint-by-numbers panels, and attend a walking mural tour.

Thursday, also make sure to check out the Watercolor Bin Sale at 12th Ave’s Seattle Academy Arts Center.

There are two events to appreciate the art of the tattoo. During art walk, Hybrid_Space will host Ink & Drink: A Pop-Up Temporary Tattoo Event while Saturday brings ink for a good cause: Dark Age Tattoo’s Flash tattoo day for Camp Starlight:

On May 14th we will be doing a $50 flash tattoo day from 12-9. All proceeds will go directly to Camp Starlight. Camp Starlight is a nonprofit that provides a safe and fun cap environment for children who’s lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Last year we raised over $3,000 and with your help, we hope to top that number this year. The event will be first come first served, no design changes, arms & legs only. Come get tattooed and help support a good cause all at the same time!

Saturday also features the return of two popular events. First, the Volunteer Park Conservatory holds its Spring Plant Sale from 10 AM to 3 PM. Meanwhile, the 2016 Pierogi Fest goes down starting at 11:30 AM at 18th Ave’s Polish Cultural Center.

Sunday, get your first look at all the candidates vying to lead the 43rd District in Olympia in a debate at Northwest Film Forum sponsored by the King County Young Democrats.

But first things first. You can find a full roster of Thursday’s art walk venues and featured artists at capitolhillartwalk.com. CHS is a proud community sponsor!
