A driver was arrested for investigation of DUI after a car carrying the 39-year-old, another adult, and two children plunged around 20 feet after crashing off the roadway, through a fence, and into a construction pit Friday night at MLK and Union.

Seattle Fire rushed to the scene of the 11:21 PM crash to find the car sitting upright on the under-construction foundation of the four-story development underway at the corner. We do not know specifics of any injuries but no additional medical units were called to the scene after the initial response. The car’s four occupants were able to get out of the vehicle on their own, according to Seattle Fire radio reports.

Seattle Police investigated the crash as a DUI. According to East Precinct records, the 39-year-old was arrested and booked for DUI and three counts of reckless endangerment. He is currently being held on $4,000 bail in King County Jail awaiting arraignment scheduled for Saturday. UPDATE: The man booked was released Saturday night and issued a “no complaint filed” letter from the City Attorney. We have requested the SPD report on the incident for more details of what arriving officers found at the scene.

Meanwhile, about 15 minutes earlier Friday night, the driver fled the scene after a silver Honda Pilot ended up on its side in the middle of Nagle Place in a crash involving the flipped car and two other vehicles parked along the narrow street on the backside of Cal Anderson. Police searched the area for the driver but were unable to immediately track him down despite witness descriptions of the suspect and his route fleeing the area on foot. There were no reported injuries involved in the crash.
