Donald Trump’s shadow, as seen during Monday’s convention, looms over even the strongest Democratic strongholds.

As the Republican National Convention rolls on in Cleveland, Democrats are gearing up for battle, even in the liberal stronghold of Seattle. The Washington State Democratic Party opened up six new offices in July, including a campaign office in Madrona at 34th and E Union.

Democrats will be using the offices to help Hillary Clinton defeat Donald Trump in November. Spokesperson Marc Siegel said that the Madrona office is now operational and will supplement the organization’s headquarters in downtown Seattle.

Siegel was vague when asked why Democrats chose Madrona specifically, saying “this location allows us to be a part of the community and accessible.” While Seattle will be a lock for Clinton, Madrona does fall within the less socialist sphere of the “Capitol Hill divide.” Siegel said the campaign office will be the home base for dozens of staff and volunteers to phone bank and go door knocking.

Last week state party chair Jaxon Ravens released a statement calling Trump and running mate Indiana Governor Mike Pence “a dangerous, discriminatory duo.”

Tea Party leader and Indiana Governor Mike Pence is the most extreme Vice Presidential pick in a generation. He’s made national headlines for restricting a woman’s right to choose and legalizing discrimination against the LGBT community. Donald Trump and Mike Pence are a dangerous, discriminatory duo who don’t share Washington state’s values.

Democrats opened offices in Everett, Bellevue, and Federal Way on July 9, and Bothell, Vancouver, and at 3300 E Union on July 10.

As a warmup to the general election in November, Seattle voters will help narrow the field in a handful of statewide and local races in the August 2nd primary. Ballots were mailed last week and include a “top two” vote for the open House seat in the 43rd District. CHS recently spoke with all eight candidates about how they would bolster civil rights, affordability, and equity in Seattle. 43rd District Democrats also made their endorsements for statewide races last month.

It’s not so complicated– The space was empty; it’s close to downtown; it’s on 2 bus lines and close to a 3rd; and it has parking.
