Hilloween 2016: Broadway carnival, a new creepy crawl, and spooky light art in the conservatory

The CHS Calendar is filling with fun things to do around Capitol Hill’s Christmas — Halloween. Included in the fun-sized mix is the return of the annual Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce Hilloween carnival, a new Capitol Hill zombie crawl, and a spooky new event from the producer behind this summer’s Lusio light art festival in Volunteer Park. We’ll continue to add more to the candy bucket through the month. If you have something Hilloween-y to share, add it to the calendar. Highlights… below!

Hilloween 2016

Mollie Bryan, producer of the Lusio festival which filled Volunteer Park with light art this July, is launching a new series of events at the park’s conservatory with a Halloween edition. The Sylvan Series debuts with Eldritch on October 29th:

el·dritch / ˈeldriCH
adjective
“weird and sinister or ghostly”

We’re bringing in Monster Planet to create live showcase of the delightfully weird. Monster Planet is an ever-expanding collective of producers, musicians, sound designers, visual artists, and B-movie enthusiasts who create a live improvisational experience of sounds and video made from a plethors of modulars, synths, and whatever else they can fit on the table. Located in the Seasonal House, their weird sounds and spooky visuals will be setting the tone for the entire event.

Meanwhile, First Hill’s Sorrento Hotel is strong with the Hilloween spirit again this year with a month’s worth of ghostly events including an Alice B. Toklas Tour & Dinner on October 13th, the popular Witches High Tea on the 23rd and the 30th, and Tarot Card Tuesdays. You can learn more here

Thanks for the post! The Chamber is incredibly excited to continue the Hilloween tradition and add a new adult-friendly Zombie Crawl. We are still recruiting restaurants and bars for Zombie Crawl so email mel.org if you are interested. We have great establishments all over Capitol Hill from 19th Ave E to Melrose and I hear babysitters are getting harder to find by the day:) Can’t wait to see all the fun kid and adult costumes on the 29th. But maybe we could avoid #scaryclowns at the kid events:)
