Video: Downed power line closes intersection at Capitol Hill construction site

The scary power of a downed electric wire was on full display after a construction crane clipped the line Tuesday afternoon near Harvard and Thomas.

Seattle Fire and police were called to the construction site around 3:30 PM after the live wire caused a small fire. The downed wire caused an explosion-like bang and a brief flicker of a power outage across central Capitol Hill around Broadway.

Vehicles at the work site were stuck under the live wire but there were no reported injuries as workers were able to make it safely away from the arcing wire.

Seattle City Light was reported at the scene just after 4 PM to repair the damage. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area was closed to keep people away from the dangling wire which flared mightily at one point before fizzling out on the rainy pavement.
