Around 16k ballots were collected at Capitol Hill’s new drop box — and, yes, some of them were votes for Trump

While the results stunk, the county’s new election drop boxes were popular. More than half of the ballots collected in November were dropped at the 43 box locations in King County, officials say.

We found Capitol Hill’s newly installed box extremely busy with voters along Broadway in front of Seattle Central. But Capitol Hill’s drop location didn’t even make the top 10 in total ballots collected — we came in 12th with 16,936 16,396 ballots collected, far behind Ballard’s library location and its whopping 39,282 ballots.

About 91% of county residents now live within three miles of a drop box, King County Elections reports.

The new expansion of the box program also couldn’t overcome voter apathy as turnout fell to 82%, three points lower than in 2012.

Some of the ballots dropped on Broadway, you can presume, went to the winner, Donald J. Trump. Thanks to nwmapt.com, we can see where Trump’s support was strongest in the region

What blinders you must have to live in Seattle’s historic gayborhood and vote for a ticket that believes in “conversion therapy.” Disgraceful.

Hillary believed in a free pass for lawbreaking border jumpers, something that a great many voters, myself included, held my nose on at as I voted for her. A great many liberals do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants (I refuse to use the sanitized term of undocumented). The comments in the NY Times, which are generally strongly liberal, run about 80% in favor of enforcing existing laws. Yet our grandstanding mayor wants to make Seattle a “sanctuary” city, whatever that means.

Pence believed at some point in conversion therapy, and perhaps still does. I am not aware that Trump’s actual platform supported this. In any event it is a basic non-issue in the mainstream therapy world. That our city council sees fit to make a ruling on this rather than let malpractice suits determine standard of medical care, is one of the many things problematic with our city. They should stick to making sure potholes are filled. Conversion therapy for children (which is the only thing the law addresses) is likely in Seattle a problem existing only in the minds of a few, and not in actual practice. I certainly have never heard of it in this town, and have been in the field for decades. And it is simply below the standard of care. But so are many things in therapy and health care which our council is appropriately silent about.

Obama was at one point against gay marriage and saw marriage as between a man and a woman. He changed his mind over time. The difference between gay marriage and conversion therapy includes the fact that people want to do the former, whereas the latter is rare to none in Seattle.

Trump won the damn election and got almost 50% of America’s votes. The blinders I fear were mainly being worn by our neighbors, who could not fathom this outcome. I do not celebrate the victory except to the degree it may have humbled one or more social justice warriors who delude themselves into thinking that they possess the one truth about society and that the majority agree with them. Obviously they live in their own bubble.

I am hoping that the Trump victory may give pause to our mayor and council, whose unmitigated liberality can rightly be seen as an outlier view – and that mainstream candidates may have the courage to oppose them in the coming election cycles. How else can we understand proposals to permit homeless encampments in the city parks among other absurdities. The question remains whether the average Seattle voter will continue to support those on the extreme left, who have won the mayoral and council races – or be open to installing new leaders, which we sorely need – along with serious candidates to consider.

Conversion therapy is supported in the official Republican national platform: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/13/us/politics/republican-convention-issues.html?_r=0

Donald Trump has lost popular vote by greater margin than any US President

I think there are reasonable disagreements to be had about immigration policy, but if you think Trump has fostered a healthy public discourse given the massive spike in hate crimes I think you should re-evaluate.

“Trump won the damn election and got almost 50% of America’s votes.”

Trump got 46.0% and Hillary has 48.1% and almost 3 million more votes than him. He got the electoral votes but no majority.

Nice of you to jump at the chance to defend the far right bigots.

My point is to suggest that almost half, or 46% is a meaningful number of voters and Americans. Hardly fringe and not all right wing assholes.

My other point is that our city council ought to be careful before legislating on pet issues like banning conversion therapy. Their ban is about as useful and impactful as banning UFO landing in the city.

And if it were a valid treatment that the council did not approve of, and a therapist conducted it on a minor with parental consent, they likely would not withstand a court battle.

Bigots, normal folks, or both – it shows how out of touch most of us libs are with the body politic.
