Police search for attacker after man says stabbed in neck with pen on Melrose — UPDATE

Police were searching for the suspect in an early morning attack on Melrose Ave E in which the victim reportedly told police a man “hearing voices” had stabbed him with a pen.

Police were called to the incident just before 4 AM after a report of a man screaming that he had been stabbed in the 500 block of Melrose Ave E near E Mercer, according to East Precinct radio dispatches.

Officers arrived to find the victim down with an approximately one-inch gash to his neck. The victim said the male who attacked him said he was hearing voices and used a pen in the assault.

Police were searching for the suspect in the area around the Melrose trail north of the scene where he was reported to have fled. They were searching for a white male wearing a blue hoodie and tan pants and carrying a duffel bag.

The victim was transported to Harborview. We do not yet have an update on his condition.

There were no immediate arrests.

UPDATE: Here is SPD’s brief on the incident. Police say the man who was stabbed was sleeping on the street before he was attacked.

A man who was sleeping in the enclosed entry way of a building was stabbed in the neck with a pen by an unknown suspect early Thursday morning. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been located. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. Just before 4:00 am, officers responded to the 500 block of Melrose Avenue East. Officers located an adult male who had been stabbed in the neck with a pen inside the enclosed entry way of the building. Officers provided first aid to the man to stop the bleeding until Seattle Fire medics arrived to take over the medical treatment. The victim was transported by medics to HMC where he is currently receiving treatment for his injury. Officers searched the area for the suspect but did not locate the suspect. It is unknown at this time what led up to the confrontation between the suspect and victim. Officers processed the scene and detectives will now conduct the follow up investigation.

Yeah. This happened in my building. They were two homeless men in the vestibule area trying to get into the building but could not get access.

I am so sick and tired of the homeless problem in Seattle. It has perpetually gotten worse while the Seattle liberals and their bleeding hearts continue to appease the sense of entitlement from homeless and homeless advocates. Read the Seattle PI article below as reference.

That area along Melrose is getting quite bad – there are somewhat established camps along the bike trail there, and frequently people wandering around who appear to be completely out of their minds. :(
