• 12th Ave break-in: A suspect carrying a large knife and so high or suffering such a severe mental crisis  — or both — that he couldn’t be interviewed by detectives and required hospitalization after his arrest caused a scary morning for a 12th Ave E household early Monday and put a ring of police around the neighborhood to search for the suspect. Here is a brief from SPD on the incident: On Monday at about 5:30 am East Precinct officers responded to the 600 block of 12th Avenue East to investigate a report of a stranger inside the house. The residents called 911 stating that the unknown man, wearing only shorts, had entered the house armed with a large knife. The homeowner confronted the suspect, and asked him what he was doing. The suspect told the resident that he was looking for a certain individual, who does not live there. Officers responded quickly and surrounded the house, but the suspect fled before officers arrived. Officers conducted an extensive search of the neighborhood but did not locate the suspect. During their initial investigation, two knives were found outside a basement window. The evidence was collected and submitted into evidence for fingerprint analysis. After conducting their investigation, officers left the scene. The homeowner was not injured during this encounter.At 7:00 am the homeowners called 911 again, stating that the suspect had returned to the backyard. Officers returned to the house as the suspect fled through the neighboring yards. Officers were able to surround him in a backyard about a block away and take him into custody without any further incident. Detectives from the Robbery Unit responded and processed the scene. Detectives attempted to interview the suspect, but it was clear he was experiencing some sort of mental health crisis or was under the influence of drugs and was unable to be interviewed.Police say the 27-year-old man was eventually booked into King County Jail and is being investigated for robbery.
• Death on E Mercer: A woman died Sunday night on Mercer just off Broadway after collapsing on the street. According to Seattle Fire radio dispatches, medics were called to Mercer and Broadway around 4:45 PM Sunday to a report of a woman believed to be in her 60s down after falling unconscious on the sidewalk. Seattle Fire efforts to revive the woman were not successful and she died at the scene before she could be transported to the hospital. The King County Examiner will determine a cause of death and identify the victim.
• First Hill overdose: A woman believed to be in her 20s got a chance at surviving a drug overdose thanks to the persistence of East Precinct officers in an incident at a First Hill parking garage early on the morning of March 18th. According to police and Seattle Fire radio dispatches, first responders to the 1:20 AM overdose call at Madison and Boylston could not locate the victim. After a tense 15-minute search, an officer finally located the woman in a staircase just off Boylston. The unconscious victim showed signs of heavy intravenous drug use. CPR was administered and the victim was rushed to the hospital. We do not have information on her condition.
• Pike assault: Police are investigating after two males were taken into custody following an altercation at Pike and Crawford that left a victim with a bloodied forehead after he was struck with a bottle in an incident reported just after midnight on March 20th. According to the victim and witnesses, the assault began when the males started a fight claiming the people attacked were “talking shit” about Somalians:

  Police contacted the suspects on Pine and questioned them about the attack and learned that one of the males had suffered a cut to his hand likely caused by broken glass: 
• Shell Station money grab: A woman told police she was robbed of $80 and injured when the thief tried to “scrape” her off his car as he tried to flee the Broadway/Pike gas station where the crime went down in an incident reported around 3 AM Sunday morning:
  The victim was able to provide police with a detailed description of her assailant:
  There were no immediate arrests. The victim suffered injuries to her hands but declined treatment, according to the report.
• Broadway/Pike beating: A man suffered a serious laceration near his eye after being jumped in an altercation he said started when four males said something insulting to him on the street. According to the report on the Broadway/Pike incident reported early Sunday morning around 3:30 AM, the victim said he was upset and drawn into the fight because of the recent death of his young daughter:
  There were no arrests. The man was treated at Seattle Fire before being transported by police to the hospital for further treatment.
• Boren/Pike warrant arrest: Police lucked into an arrest of a wanted man after finding him passed out outside of a car at Boren and Pike. According to police, Officer Jared Levitt was driving near Boren Avenue and E Pike Street around 8 AM Sunday, March 18th when he noticed the man lying on the ground next to his Ford Crown Victoria: Concerned the man was injured or having a medical issue, Officer Levitt pulled over and tried to wake the 27-year-old man, without much initial success. When the man did regain consciousness, he made several attempts to get back in his car. The man, who appeared intoxicated, told the officer he’d been “partying,” and police soon discovered the man had a suspended license, is a convicted felon, and is required to have an interlock ignition device in his vehicle, which he did not. After arresting the man, police found a stolen handgun in his pants and someone else’s credit card in his wallet, and booked him into the King County Jail for possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.
• Summit burglary: Two people moving into a new place in the 1400 block of Summit Ave got a rude welcome when they came to the residence and found that somebody had busted in via the fire escape, “made a mess with crackers,” left graffiti on a window, and generally made a mess while burglarizing the place.
  Police are investigating.
